Our permit entitles us to approach the whales up to 50m and then we stop to observe, it is then up to the whales to approach closer. Being naturally curious, the whales often come right up to the boat. It is definitely a magical experience to be treasured. The extensive system of tunnels and chambers in the Cango Caves stretch for over 4 kilometres, but the section open to visitors, about a quarter of this, takes place as part of supervised tours, including an 'adventure tour', which takes about an hour and a half. The main chambers in the Cango Caves, called Cango 1, contain countless dripstone formations, and Van Zyl’s hall - named after its discoverer - is simply breathtaking it is so huge. Cleopatra’s Needle, which stands 9 meters high and is at least 150 000 years old, is one of the main attractions at the Cango Caves, but the beautiful dark grey roof, with its smoothly sculptured hollows and pendants, comes a close second.

The view from Africa’s highest bridge captures all the majesty and tranquillity of the Bloukrans River valley. But there is nothing tranquil about throwing yourself more than 200 meters down towards the river below. Recognized as the ‘highest bungee from a bridge in the world, Bloukrans Bungy uses pendulum bungee technology to ensure the smoothest, most comfortable bungee jump possible. Jumpers are secured in a full-body harness combined with an ankle connection. There is also a bridge walk available.

The Jeffreys Bay Shell Museum was opened on 15 September 1998 to house the collection of a local Me Charlotte Kritzinger, who dedicated many years to collecting shells. Over time, this collection was further enhanced, through donations and exchanges. A recent addition is a display of Jeffreys Bay micro shells, which is believed to be unique in the region. It houses more than 600 shells from species all of the world making it one of the largest shell collections in South Africa and attracts shell fanatics from all over the globe. Housed in glass cases is a huge variety of shells including the legendary cowrie, the rare paper nautilus, tiny baby jam tarts and a new species of cone.
